Biography
Born 1977 in Trier (Germany), Thorsten started his musical education by the age of six with the pianist Nikola Dimitrov.
He became a student of Bernd Glemser, one of Germany’s leading pianists, by the age of seventeen. After studying with Glemser (Saarbrücken and Würzburg) and Alexander Satz (Graz and London) Thorsten continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Hamish Milne and Alexander Satz. He graduated in 2006 with a Diploma in Postgraduate Performance, DipRAM for an outstanding final recital and the LRAM Teaching Diploma.
In Master Classes he worked with Paul Badura Skoda, Elisso Visaladze, Vitaly Margulis, K.H. Kämmerling, Francois Rene Duchable, Peter Feuchtwanger, Helmut Deutsch, Gustav Rivinius and many others.
Since the beginning of his career he won several national and international prizes: IBLA Grand Prize (Sicily), Tortona (Italy), Casale Monferrato (Italy), Nürnberg (Germany), Frankenthal, Besancan (France).
Thorsten regularly appears in European Music Festivals, not only as a soloist but also as a chamber musician (Musica Riva Festival, Festival de Pontlevoy, Festivals for Contemporary Music in Würzburg and Mannheim, Silent Movie Festival in Berlin with the Ensemble Kontraste, Encuentro de Musica y Academia de Santander) together with singers, violinists and cellists (such as Themistokles Vagenas from Vollos and Beate Altenburg, Madrid).
Thorsten has had solo performances in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Centre (New York), Salle Moliere (Lyon), Kulturbrauerei (Berlin), Sala Argenta (Santander, Spain), as well as in Glasgow, Munich, Athens, Little Rock (Arkansas), New Castle, Leipzig and London.
