Biography
Mauro Banfi was born in Varese, Italy in 1976.
First developed a love of the piano at the age of four, then refined it in the ensuing years studying classical and jazz piano, trombone, jazz composition and arranging. Among his tutors were celebrated Italian jazz musicians Antonio Faraò and Franco D'Andrea.
In 2003, Mauro came to London to take the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama master's degree in jazz (MMus) and two years later a bachelor’s degree in jazz at the Middlesex University (BA Hons). This gave him the opportunity to study with respected artists such as J. Taylor, S. Purcell, P. Churchill, N. Iles, T. Tomkins, I. Carr, C. Batchelor and S. Stroman.
Mauro has performed throughout Italy, Switzerland, Spain and the UK, in music as diverse as pop and rock, acid jazz, gospel, musical theatre and modern jazz.
Still resident in London, he divides his time between jazz projects such as My Humbleside and Quazamba, playing as freelance musician, teaching both privately and at the City and Islington College, Pembroke Academy.
