Biography
Mary Woolmer studied at The Royal College of Music with her mother, Kathleen McQuitty FRCM, for piano, and with Marie Wilson and Herbert Kinsey for violin. During that time she won three Exhibitions, won the McEwan Prize for pianoforte playing and gained Performer's ARCM at 17. She has experience of public playing, in London and in Australia and New Zealand. She has taught in several schools and at Roehampton University for some twenty years where she has also examined. Her main teaching experience is at The Royal College of Music Junior Department where she has taught the piano for over 35 years. More recently she has also been coaching chamber groups and piano groups of 3 and 4 players.
She comes from a musical background as both her parents, Henry Wilson and Kathleen McQuitty were professors at The Royal College of Music - both FRCM's - and her eldest son Christopher Woolmer is a well known organist. She is still very active at The RCM Junior Department, working a full day on Saturdays. Over the years she has taught hundreds of students, have entered several for Young Musician of the Year and has an excellent record of successes in Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations at all levels.
