Biography
Marie Lee Gustafsson received her early musical training at the Nordic Music Conservatory, studying the piano and violin. In July 2005 she graduated with a Master of Music in Performance with First Class Distinction from the Royal College of Music, learning piano with Yonty Solomon and previously with the late Irina Zaritskaya. She was awarded the prestigious Chappell Gold Medal and other prizes won include the Esther Fisher Prize, Vivian Hamilton Prize, Ellen Marie Curtis Prize and Pauer Prize.
Marie Lee has broadcast live performances on Scandinavian television with Oslo Radio Symphony Orchestra and regularly gives recitals as a soloist and chamber musician in London. She performed in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s John Cage Weekend at the Barbican Centre and recorded in January 2007 at Abbey Road Studios for a film feature and performance in Stephen Poliakoff’s production ‘Capturing Mary’ commissioned by BBC 2.
Alongside performing, Marie Lee has led creative partnerships funded by the Arts Council England, trained with Teacher Training Agency and assisted at IMG Artists in London. She enjoys teaching all levels and is currently working privately and at two schools as piano tutor. Her approach is always encouraging and adaptable to the student’s needs and abilities. Her main objective is giving inspiring lessons which build a strong musical sense, enjoyment and playing technique. She regularly prepares students for ABRSM exams and arranges opportunities for students who wish to perform in concerts.
